Fundraising for Burntisland Christmas Lights

Burntisland Community Council is working hard to raise money for improving the Christmas Lights in the High Street.

This year the main section to the Burgh Chambers will be covered and next year the western part should be lit too.

There are collection boxes in many shops and the fundraising Bingo will be in the Jubilee on Friday.

Today the CC is staffing a stall (pictured John Bruce) in the High Street Co-op offering bingo cards and the chance to put money in the can.

New Community Council Meets on Friday

Community Councils run for four years. Members have to be elected (if there are more candidates than seats) and then at the first meeting, office bearers chosen.

As previously reported two new members are still teenagers. Also it seems likely that all 15 seats will be filled – the first time for several years.

Full agenda

As usual the meeting is on the 2nd Friday at 7 in the Burgh Chambers. All meetings are open to the public.

Burntisland Sailing Club Lift-out Due This Weekend

BSC members get the opportunity ever year to have their boats lifted onto dry land (in a compound) for winter storage and maintenance.

The lift is due on Saturday morning but, currently, the weather is being nervously watched!

Go along to have a look but don’t get too close. Hard hat, boots and all the gear are required for all those actually involved.

These photos were taken from Scholars’ Brae (great viewpoint behind the Parish Church). Long lenses or binoculars useful.

RotaKids is a fun and exciting way for children aged 7-12 to make friends and get involved with important activities in the community, all while having a great time in the process.

A RotaKids group was started 2 years ago at BPS. There has also been one in Kinghorn for a year.

They were started by Rita Attewell (in photo) who says: “RotaKids supports our youngest citizens to develop the strength, knowledge, skills, enthusiasm, and determination to keep on finding ways to change the world, locally and globally, into a more peaceful place where people can enjoy their lives. They choose  projects to benefit their school, the community and internationally.”

Last year BPS RotaKids had a cake competition and an activity day to raise money for Children in Need and an art competition raising money for “Purple for Polio”.

Other activities included raising funds fo SSPCA and the Epilepsy Foundation and collecting over 2000 books for school libraries in Ghana.

The group meets once a month. All projects are funded by the Rotary Club of Burntisland and Kinghorn.
