Burntisland Bonfire and Fireworks brought to you by the Burntisland Events Group and many more volunteers on the day to build the bonfire and marshall the evening.

Also with a lot of work by Fife Council‘s Parks, Streets and Open Spaces department and Community Payback.

Many people arrived by train. ScotRail arranged for extra trains to call at Burntisland Station.

Willi will be a hard act to follow. Every year the Community Council chooses a person who will represent the Town at various events. The award is given to someone for ‘outstanding service’.

The search is on for the person in Burntisland who has given most to the community and who will win the Community Award for 2020.

Every year, Burntisland Community Council makes an award to someone whose service to the community has been outstanding. There are no restrictions on the type of service which can be recognised – all that matters is that the winner of the award is an example to others.

Now in its 40th year, previous winners have come from many different walks of life. Some have given long and excellent service to different local organisations. Others have excelled in the face of disability. Still others have worked quietly in the background bringing comfort to people who are distressed by illness or family circumstances.

Whatever the background, the key point is that winners of the Award are considered by the Community Council to be an example of how we should live our lives in support of the people around us.

Nominations should be made to the Secretary of Burntisland Community Council, Yvonne Crombie, not later than Friday 13th December, or to any member of the Community Council.

Nominations by e-mail can be sent to burntislandcc@outlook.com .The winner will be announced on Hogmanay and a formal presentation will be made early in the New Year.

UPDATE

Lively afternoon

The latest round of good causes have been chosen and three local groups are set to receive several thousands pounds.

The money comes from the 1% generated by Coop members buying Coop branded items in the town’s two stores. Members get a 5% discount as well, so it’s well worth signing up (https://www.coop.co.uk/membership).

The final arrangements are being made. The site was marked out today. Fife Council was filling in depressions (notably the ones left by the new power cables under The Links. The safety zone fences will go in over the next few days.

Collection tins were borrowed from Burntisland Civic Week and an email went out to people who have volunteered to help on the night (mostly marshalls and cash collectors).
