“We are delighted to welcome back our old friend and great raconteur, military historian Roy Johnstone, this time describing how, from the end of May and the early days of June 1940, 338,226 British, French and Belgian soldiers were evacuated from the beaches at Dunkirk. Prime Minister Winston Churchill paid tribute to the deliverance of the evacuation. Britain was not finished and would fight on!
The evacuation gave rise to the concept of the ‘Dunkirk Spirit’ – a refusal to surrender or panic in times of great national peril. This was not a story just about Britain, but also about survival, freedom, and the prevention of a new dark age in Europe.”

“The 92nd annual excursion “THE TRIP!” of St Patrick’s Shotts will take place on Sunday 17th of June. This years destination is Burntisland in Fife! St Patrick’s Picnic Group have once again chartered a train from ScotRail to take us all safely to and from our destination and requested the attendance of St Patrick’s Brass Band to accompany the school children in their processions. This promises to be another great parish/family day out at the seaside.”

Last night’s decision to move some events from The Links to the Church Hall was wise – plenty of rain this morning.
It stopped just in time for the Parade after the crowning ceremony in Burntisland Church.
The Pipe Band led and children and adults from local groups followed.
Many had costumes inspired by the “Music Through The Decades” theme.

(Torrential rain at 2:30.)
